Dixie Miller currently work as an Educational Consultant and instructor for College of Southern Maryland, but in her former occupation as co-producer of television show "Straight Talk," she was uniquely positioned to provide public service information in response to a community need. Dixie continues to extend her passion for wellness into her volunteer work as well, as a longtime committee member of the Calvert Memorial Hospital Ball and board member and volunteer for Calvert Hospice. In her candidacy for Mardi Gras Queen, Dixie says "I am thrilled to be nominated to run for Queen of the 2009 Mardi Gras and have every intention of winning the crown."
More importantly, Dixie declares when she is crowned queen, she wants to give back to the community by "raising awareness about homeless in our county, helping women of domestic violence, and helping others understand the value of diversity." Recently, Dixie organized an expansive letter campaign to friends, family and colleagues in her plea for support of United Way of Calvert County, with letters sent to as far away as Palm Springs, California and Kamuela, Hawaii.
